Premier League - September update

PREMIER LEAGUE

Tottenham’s win over Man. City gave new life to the Premier, that threatened to become dull if the result had been reversed with Guardiola team opening a 5 point lead. As it stands it’s anybody’s game, the distances are very small and any team that puts some wins in a row flies through the table, as did Arsenal and Liverpool lately

 MANCHESTER CITY

Injuries have taken its toll in keeping a consistent starting XI for Guardiola, and in the game at White Hart Lane some defensive frailties appeared to show how tough the Premier League really is. Is up to Pep to pick is team back up to get another set of wins and allow them space for the tougher matches.

CHELSEA

After the Liverpool defeat, Chelsea was thrashed by Arsenal and let show that while the team is performing well against weaker teams, when they face equal opposition Chelsea struggles. With Hazard still looking to regain confidence there’s no one to be the x-factor on Conte’s team and something will need to change for the season to be successful.

MANCHESTER UNITED

It has been a very tough run after the loss in the Manchester Derby, with an embarrassing display at Watford that saw Rooney dropped with quite a rumble of controversy. The win against Leicester masked the mistakes, as the defensive calamity that happened for the champions was very uncharacteristic. Even De Gea made a big mistake in the game against Stoke and Mourinho needs to turn things around straight away or his team will start to get inevitably behind.

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

Pochettino and Tottenham seem ready to prove that last season wasn’t a fluke on their part. They are the only unbeaten team, after coming up stronger against Guardiola’s City in a game where they didn’t have Harry Kane but still come up with a very convincing win. Now it’s all about keeping the momentum and we can have Spurs fighting, again, for the title, and they have the perfect result to build upon.

 ARSENAL

After only one point in two games, Wenger was able to regroup his squad and the return was a run of 5 wins that catapulted Arsenal to the top, with the win against Chelsea being the highlight, a game where they scored 3 but could have had 5 or 6, really. Injuries haven’t been the big problem, but you’ve got to wonder what will happen if Alexis dries up in goals, as Giroud is still goalless and there aren’t that many options.

LEICESTER CITY

Leicester has been in form in the Champions League, but it seems the Premier League won’t be a massive success for Ranieri and the Foxes. You could argue that they are not expected to challenge for the title again, and while that’s true, seeing the champions sitting in the 12th position is a big disappointing. With MSV starting to glue together, Rainieri hopes he can have a good run of wins to get back to the first half of the table.

LIVERPOOL

Klopp had time last season to study the Premier from the inside and have his team ready for this year. A year where they started losing at Burnley, and seeming that Liverpool was just not ready, but after that they are unbeaten, defeating Chelsea and Leicester in convincing fashion and going toe to toe with the top teams. It’s an organized kick and rush that Klopp brought and it seems to be working.

                                 The League

Had City won at the White Hart Lane, you could argue that they were starting to run away with the league, but as things stand it seems that Guardiola’s squad will be challenged, mainly by Pochettino’s Spurs that seem keen to the an historic title after last season’s missed chance. Arsenal and Liverpool complete top-4 so far but the teams are all very close and things change rapidly in the Premiership.
