Bundesliga - The beginning

BUNDESLIGA

Normally the first big European league to open up its play, this season the Bundesliga was the last and we only had one matchday so far. It’s, subsequently, hard to see any tendencies coming through Germany, but one thing we are almost certain is that Bayern is the major contender, with Dortmund right behind them. In the Super Cup we saw how close, and yet so far, Dortmund is, dominating Bayern but ending up losing. It was a good start for Ancelotti.

         BAYERN MUNICH

It’s going to be hard to replace Guardiola, but the wisdom of the Bayern board did not disappoint again, finding Ancelotti available and ready to be champion again. More than that though, the Spaniard did not achieve any Champions League title, and that is mostly why Ancelotti was brought to Allianz-Arena, while maybe bringing back Bayern to its origins of play

   BORUSSIA DORTMUND

Tuchel arrived in Dortmund with the difficult task of replacing Jurgen Klopp, but one month after everyone was asking “Jurgen Who?”. They shouldn’t, obviously, as the two actually share the same philosophy and made their name while managing Mainz. Dortmund lost, again, one of their star man to Bayern Munich (Hummels) and Mhiktharian went to live a dream in Manchester, but Tuchel is an expert on finding new solutions, and Dortmund will have an exciting opportunity to prove themselves, when they face Real Madrid in the UCL group stage.

                                 The League

It might not be the case, but if you look at the Bundesliga table after the 1st matchday, you can’t help but think that Bayern will not surrender their top spot throughout the campaign. A great win against Werder Bremen makes them leader due to goal difference, in a matchday where the only big surprise was the Schalke 04 defeat. But there’s much football to happen and things are still open.
